About me

My name is Elly and I am a registered childminder in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I am trained as a Primary teacher, however after my daughter was born I decided full-time teaching is not for me and as I really enjoy working with children and helping them in their development, I decided childminding was the perfect job for me.

Qualifications
I have attended a childminder registration course as well as courses in Paediatric First Aid, Food Safety, Equality & Diversity and Safeguarding.
I also have a PGCE in Primary Education and a degree in French and German.
I have a full driving licence and we often use the car for day trips away from the setting.

Experience
I have been working as a childminder for  just over 7 years and have worked with a number of families during this time. I have developed excellent working relationships with both parents and children.

My experience of working with children began as a young person, growing up with two much younger siblings; helping with homework, babysitting and sometimes taking them to school.
After completing my degree I then spent a year volunteering in two local schools in preparation for my PGCE, gaining further experience of working with school-age children.
During my teaching placements for my PGCE I worked with children from a range of ages (3-11years) and abilities, including children with special educational needs.
I also have twelve years' experience of working with children outside of school through my role as a Brownie leader.
Almost eleven years ago I began perhaps the most important experience of all; caring for my own child and being a (weekend) step-parent to two!
